Constellations? I'm new to stars and I was wondering how could you tell if they are constellations or not? All I see is a bunch of crowded stars =\. Do people rememorize the constellation names? I don't understand how it is that people can realize what they are!
constellations? why is it that we can only see certain constellations during certain seasons? what is an example of a constellation we can see best during all four seasons? thank you so much for any help you have!
What constellations have something to do with the element water? I am working on something and was curious what constellations were related to the element of water in some way. Please realize I already know the Zodiac ones (Aquarius, Cancer, Pisces, etc.), so I'm mostly looking for other constellations besides those. I'm looking for any culture really. ^^; No specifics here.
Does the appearance of the constellations follow a seasonal pattern? Does the appearance of the constellations follow a seasonal pattern? a. No, all of the constellations are on any clear night of the year. b. Yes. As the year progresses, the constellations move to different areas of the sky. c. Yes, during a winter night all the constellations you can see are different from the ones that appear during a summer night. d. Yes, during a summer night many of the constellations you can see are different from those you can see on a winter night. However, there are some constellations that are visible all year long.
Where can I find pictures of the starsign constellations? Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces I need pictures of the constellations for stargazing and spotting them because I don't know what they look like.
How can i paint the constellations in my room? I want it so that when the light is on, you cannot see them. When the light goes off, you can see all the constellations and random stars. I want to have some of them astronomically correct, but not necessarily all of them. where can i get a star map and how can i do this?
What is the astronomical significance of the Zodiacal Constellations? Pick one A) They are the Constellations with the brightest stars B) They are the prominent constellations in the same plane of the Milky way Glaxy C) They are the Prominent constellations in the same plane as the earth's orbit around the sun D) They are the complete set of constellations that contain people or animals from Greek Mythology
How do constellations increase in size? I'm currently on the eastern seaboard of the US, and not too long ago noticed the Orion constellation. He was much larger than usual. My question is: how is that possible? What causes constellations to increase in size? Thanks.
Why are constellations static when we are not the center of the universe? The constellations in the night sky today are in the same shapes and locations that they were several thousand years ago. Scientists say that our solar system is not at the center of the universe. If the universe is constantly expanding, and things are constantly moving away from the "center" than why do the constellations retain the same shapes and why do the stars remain the same distance from each other from the perspective of Earth? (by center i mean where the big bang occured, because if the universe is infinite then everywhere is the "center" but that's besides the point)
What are the names of these constellations? There is a an old myth of there being two constellations that were supposedly lovers that were separated by the gods or something. I looked it and supposedly it's the Chinese constellations Vega and Altair but... I could have sworn it was Greek or Roman mythology. Is there a similar constellation that has a similar story? Like once a year they are out on the sky the same night because of some reason?
Is there an online database for viewing constellations? Like a programmed viewer of some sort, where you look at one supposed region of the sky so that it would be like standing outside. Or, a set of star charts according to location? Preferably photos of constellations, not drawings or the like. Thanks in advance! It would be great if the constellations were viewed from North America. Just a minor detail for positioning purposes, but it isn't a big deal really.
How are Galaxies and Constellations alike and different? For homework i need to compare and contrast Galaxies and Constellations. Can u please help me? If u have a website that says EXACTLY what I'm asking, then please give it to me. (but don't say google) thank you and please answer!! =)
How would you describe Jupiter's path as it passes through the constellations? I know that Jupiter figures prominently in Roman and Greek mythology/religious beliefs because it is one of the brightest objects in the sky and moves through the constellations, thus inspiring the tales and exploits of Jupiter/Zeus. Can someone please explain its path through the constellations (e.g. is it seasonally consistent?) to me; in particular, when does it pass near the Hercules constellation? I understand that Jupiter does not physically pass through the constellations as clearly as I am aware that the Sun doesn't rise in the east and set in the west; this is an optical illusion produced by our fixed point in the solar system. I would like a description of its path through the constellations as it *appears* from our vantage point on Earth. I know that it features heavily in the Roman mythological stories because it is frequently visible in our night sky.
How do the constellations affect us? What are some of the impacts of different constellations? What are some of the impacts of heavenly bodies? i was actually looking for astronomical answers such as the moon and tides, etc.
Why are some constellations only visable from a particular hemisphere ? I believe that some constellations are visable in both northern and southern hemisphere, but that others are not. I get the impression from the skymaps site, that what you can see also depends on the month. Can someone explain to me, why what you see depends on where you are and when you are looking ? Much thanks in anticipation. M.
What constellations are within the zodiac? That says it all.... I am constellation illiterate, and I need to know some of this stuff for a class If you could just send me a link about the constellations within the zodiac, that would be fantastic
Where in SoCal can I go see constellations clearly? I live in the city and basically I only see I assume to be the brightest stars, that the human eye can see. I specifically live in Rowland Heights, 30 miles east of East LA. Is there anywhere I can go such as a certain area of mountain or somewhere, where other people go to see the stars and constellations at?
Why did the ancient Greeks create constellations? I know constellations are used today to keep track of smaller stars and all that, but is that the same reason that the Greeks created them, or was it just for myths and stories, etc? And what are some of the most important constellations that the Greeks created that still influence modern day?
Is it true about the stars and new constellations ? Stars and constellations are the pin points of the world. when a hurricane or the lightening starts, It will know where to Blow and electrocute will be. When you look at the entire world in which it is round then put the stars on top of that world. we then know what is happening.
What can i use to make 3-d constellations ? I have a science project that requires me to have a 3-d object of my topic. I don't know what to use to make my 3-d project. Can you give me some ideas on what to use to make 3-d constellations. Thanks!
Why do some constellations have different shapes? Say Libra, I've seen at least two images of the Libra constellation and they look different. It's not that they are merely different rotations/angles of one another, but a different interpretation altogether (I mean the way the stars were connected). On the other hand, Ursa Minor seems to be consistent in all images.
Which constellations are visible at what time of year? I recently named a star via the International Star registry as a gift. I was hoping to find out when I would be able to see it with a telescope. The star is located near the constellation Lacerta. What time of year would this constellation be visible?
Would I recognize the constellations during the Jurassic? The Solar System orbits the center of the galaxy (as do all other stars in the galaxy) every 225 million to 250 million years. Due to the details of orbital mechanics, stars closer to the center of the galaxy would orbit faster than those further out (I think...I confess I don't know that much about the orbital mechanics of big complex systems like galaxies). My question is: if I were to travel back in time to the Jurassic (or any other time period deep in Earth's past), would I be able to recognize the constellations in the night sky, or would the stars have shifted relative to each other so much that the sky would look completely different? Or...if you don't like the concept of backwards time travel, would I recognize the constellations if I traveled 150 million or so years into the future? I understand the concept of precession, Mr. X, but that's not exactly what I meant. (Incidentally, it takes the Earth 25,765 years to make one complete precession, not 50,000). I imagine that the constellation Orion will still be recognizable in 5000 years, even if it's not in the same place in Earth's sky. What I want to know is, in 100 million years, when the Sun has made almost half of an orbit around the galaxy, will the stars that make up Orion, for example, even have the same configuration in our sky?
Was it once easier to make out the constellations than it is now? Someone told me that thirty or forty years ago, they could see a lot more stars in the sky than they can now (I guess due to pollution and such). I don't see how people can pick out constellations so well and how they first decided they look like shapes, like a lion, for instance. All those years ago in the ancient Greek or Babylonian times, did they really look like their names? Like, did Leo really look a lot more like a lion when looking up than it does now?
Why do stars in constellations never burn out? Stars 'die' all the time. I have always wondered why the constellation stars never burn out. It would be pretty cool if there was no explanation, but I am sure someone has one. Thanks!
Stellar Constellations and their Shapes etc? I know it's possible to buy books which give us the names of the various star constellations. 'The Plough', 'The Great Dipper' etc. But there is nothing obvious that makes these individual stars join together in such constellations. How did these stars come to be known by such names ? Who and when was this decided ? And are the constellations different in shape or even in their arrangements to, say, those of the ancient Chinese, or the ancient Egyptians ? If not, how could such arrangements have been universally accepted ?
